As some of you may know I have always been a crafty kind of person.I have loved cooking, sewing and crafting for as long as I can remember and I have always used these creative outlets to relax and wind down.I believe that everyone has creativity in them, you just need to find what creative outlet/s you enjoy and focus on them. There is alot to be said for taking time out and allowing yourself to become swept up in some sort of creative outlet.  Studies have shown that by doing something creative such as sewing, gardening, building, crafting and cooking (just to name a few), your body releases Dopamine which is a natural anti-depressant.

Creative activities are great for reducing stress and anxiety in adults and children.  I find that when I am in the moment of creativity, my mind enters a state of mindfulness.  Creative activity can be a great form of meditation for many adults and kids alike.Something as simple as the repetition of a pair of knitting needles as you knit along the row or the repetition of kneading a piece of bread dough can reduce your stress levels and put your mind to rest as you complete these repetitive actions.

I turned one of my creative loves (sewing) into a career.  For 15 years I worked in the bridal and eveningwear industry and I created couture gowns for my clients.  However over time it became very demanding and my love of creating and sewing was dwindling away.Once I changed careers and re adjusted my life I took up sewing for fun.  I now love to sew for me and my family.  I have re connected with my passion for making my own clothes and it is so liberating to be able to make my own unique and individual outfits again.

There is something to be said about the old fashioned ways of crafting and cooking, and although they have been considered too slow, as over the decades our world embraced everything that was fast paced from food to fashion.  We are slowly coming to realize of the importance of these timeless crafts not only to our mental health and creative minds but also to the state of our environment.Cooking and crafting as a family is also a great way to connect with each other whilst enjoying a mindful and creative activity.  Life has become "busy"and families don't seem to spend the same time as they used to doing something fun and enjoyable together.  By undertaking some type of creative activity it's a great way to slow down as a family and enjoy each others company as you embark on your creative journey together.
